We install micro-mesh gutter guards as our primary recommendation. These stainless-steel mesh covers block debris as fine as pine needles and shingle grit while allowing water to flow freely. We do not install foam inserts, brush inserts, or low-quality plastic screens — these products degrade within 2–3 years and often make the gutter situation worse.

No product eliminates maintenance entirely. What micro-mesh guards eliminate is interior cleaning — you will never need to scoop debris from inside the gutter again. You may still want an annual inspection to check that debris is not accumulating on top of the mesh and that nothing has shifted the guard out of position.

Micro-mesh guards do not cause ice dams — ice dams are caused by heat escaping through the roof and melting snow that refreezes at the cold eave. However, in climates with regular freeze events, we select guard profiles that minimize ice bridging and water backup at the drip edge.
